Are 3 istents better than 2 for treating glaucoma?

Eye Associates is the national coordination centre for a new study into the benefit and safety of inserting 3 iStent inject trabecular bypass stents for lowering intraocular pressure.

The istent inject is a titanium device measuring 0.36mm in length that aims to enhance the eyes ability to drain internal fluid (aqueous) via its natural pathways. When using this type of stent, current standard practice is to insert 2 into the eye but this study aims to assess whether 3 is better.

Enrolment in the study commenced in December 2021 from centres across NSW, Victoria and Queensland under the supervision of principal investigator Dr Colin Clement. The aim is to recruit approximately 160 – 170 patients and we are well over halfway already with encouraging early results.

Watch this space for updates on recruitment and results as the study progresses. For further information please email trials@eyeassociates.com.au
