Ophthalmic Surgeon, general ophthalmology, diseases of the eye
Dr Alina Zeldovich
works as a comprehensive ophthalmologist who is particularly interested in
patients with a combination of ocular conditions requiring concurrent
management, such as cataract, macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetes. She
is also interested in acute ocular diseases such as infections and red eyes,
trauma and foreign bodies. She performs anterior segment surgery including
cataract, pterygium and removal of ocular skin cancers.
Dr Zeldovich graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1997. In 1992 she was awarded a prize for human behaviour and in 1995 for psychiatry, and she continues to use the skills these prizes reflect in her daily interactions with her patients. She completed her residency at St Vincent’s Hospital where she gained a broad medical experience. Prior to commencing her formal ophthalmology training she completed a preclinical fellowship at Sydney Retina where she gained experience in ophthalmic research, performing ophthalmic investigations and surgical assisting.
In 2006 she completed her comprehensive ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital. She worked as a senior ophthalmology registrar at Royal North Shore Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital. In 2005 she was awarded the inaugural Filipic - Greer Medal for ocular pathology in the Part II FRANZCO Exam. In 2007 she completed a fellowship year at Eye Associates, accredited by the University of Sydney and approved by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. During her fellowship, Dr Zeldovich had the privilege of training with Professor Ivan Goldberg (Glaucoma), Professor Stuart Graham (Glaucoma) and Professor Mark Gillies (Medical Retina). She enhanced her surgical training through her experiences with Dr Paul Healey and Dr Geoff Cohn.
Dr Zeldovich is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. She has published research papers in peer reviewed ophthalmic journals and presented at ophthalmology meetings and conferences. With Professor Ivan Goldberg, she has co-authored an ophthalmology chapter in a text book which will be used by general practitioners, medical students and nurses. She has lectured at the Annual General Practitioners Conference on the management of eye conditions encountered in general practice. She teaches optometrists and trainee ophthalmologists.
