Ophthalmic Surgeon, general ophthalmology, diseases of the eye
Biography
Dr Alina Zeldovich works as a comprehensive ophthalmologist with particular expertise in patients with a combination of ocular conditions requiring concurrent management, such as cataract, macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetes. She is also interested in acute ocular diseases such as infections and red eyes, trauma and foreign bodies. She frequently performs cataract surgery in patients with these underlying ocular conditions, where the surgery requires a specialised and personalised approach.
Dr Zeldovich graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1997. She completed her residency at St Vincent’s Hospital where she gained a broad medical experience.
In 2006 she completed her comprehensive ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital. She worked as a senior ophthalmology registrar at Royal North Shore Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital. In 2005 she was awarded the inaugural Filipic - Greer Medal for ocular pathology in the Part II RANZCO Exam, the ophthalmology specialist final examinations. She was the registrar representative for the Statewide Ophthalmology Service.
In 2007 she completed a fellowship at Eye Associates. During her fellowship, Dr Zeldovich had the privilege of training with Associate Professor Ivan Goldberg AM (Glaucoma), Professor Stuart Graham (Glaucoma) and Professor Mark Gillies (Medical Retina) with whom she now works and is involved in the surgical management of their patients.
Dr Zeldovich is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. She has published research papers in peer reviewed ophthalmic journals including the British Journal of Ophthalmology, Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, Retina and others. She presents at ophthalmology meetings and conferences.
She has contributed to ophthalmology teaching of general practitioners, medical students and nurses. She has lectured at the Annual General Practitioners Conference on the management of eye conditions encountered in general practice. Recently she has published on ophthalmology, in a textbook entitled General Practice – The Integrative Approach, which is used as a reference text for general practitioners.
In her spare time she enjoys bushwalking, Pilates and playing tennis. She is married and has two young children which keep her active and motivated.
